update: programme has been added
The 2010 Flemish Open Championship weekend will be kicked off by renowned Belgian orchestras: the brass ensemble of the Royal Wind Band of the Belgian Guides (conducted by Yves Segers) and former European champion Brass Band Willebroek (conducted by Frans Violet).
Furthermore a billing is given to the rising Belgian euphonium star Glenn Van Looy. In 2008 he won the British Open Solo Championship and was runner-up at the WMC Soloist Competition. Early 2009 saw Glenn adding the title 35th Ern Keller Memorial International Soloist of the Year to his list of awards.
Next to all of this you can enjoy the young but very promising virtuoso quartet Exit_Brass!
Top class brass playing
The brass ensemble of the Belgian Guides will put the Belgian composer François Glorieux in the spotlight. This part of the concert will feature the trumpeter corps of the Belgian Guides, after which three works by François Glorieux will be performed: ‘Bridal Fanfare’, ‘November’ (trombone solo: Tom Verschoore), ‘Fantasy’ (euphonium solo: Glenn Van Looy) and the suite ‘Praha’. ‘Music for a solemn occasion’ by Jan Segers will close the musical performance by the Guides.
After the break Brassband Willebroek chooses music by composers like Torstein Agaard-Nilsen, Kenneth Hesketh, Percy Fletcher and Peter Meechan. Glenn Van Looy will perform ‘Walking on music’ (by Roger Derongé) and ‘Flight to Sparta’ from ‘Three Stories-Three Worlds’ (by Peter Meechan).
